The Planted Roof: Restoring Elegance and Life to the London Front Garden
An Atlanticbike Perspective on Living Architecture for the Home You Love
Across London, the front garden — once a place of welcome and wonder — has slipped quietly into decline. What was once a green threshold has been replaced by bins, paving, and storage - a forgotten space.
Yet for the homeowner who cares deeply, for the cyclist who cherishes their lifestyle, for the gardener, for the family investing in their forever home, the longing persists. A longing for beauty, for calm, for a front garden that reflects their values.
Atlanticbike was created to meet that longing with intention. Our planted green roofs turn functional bike and bin storage into extraordinary living surfaces that bring nature back to the city, and a quiet sense of pride back to the home.
A Roof that Grows the Garden, and the Family
Verde Muro | up to 6 sqm planted green roof
In a compact 12 sqm front garden, a planted green roof brings surprising scale. The Atlanticbike Verde Muro delivers up to six square metres of curated greenery beneath a bay window, transforming the façade into a memorable identity in its white terrace row.
But this roof does more than decorate: it invites ritual. The family tends it together, watching it evolve with the seasons, watering it on warm evenings. From the sidewalk, the planted roof offers distinction. From inside, it’s a living landscape — one that holds meaning, and mirrors the family’s sense of calm, order, and care.
A Green Roof Where There Was None
Bespoke Verde Line | A driveway transformed
This was once a front garden in name only — entirely covered by a driveway. But for a client passionate about sustainability and gardening, the absence of life was unacceptable.
The Atlanticbike planted roof introduced not just secure, discreet storage, but a reclaimed piece of nature — three square metres of rich textured greenery, lifting itself above the concrete below.
Now, there is something to pause for, something to look after. A private patch of green that brings back the connection to soil, to beauty, to a more grounded way of living.
The Finishing Note in a Garden of Vision
Bespoke Verde Uno | Integrated into full SuDS garden design
In some homes, the garden is a complete idea — thoughtful, layered, and sustainable in every sense. This property had been redesigned with care: permeable paving, drainage systems, a planting plan for every corner. All that remained was the need for a bike store that felt like part of the whole.
The Atlanticbike Verde Uno, crowned with a fully bespoke planted roof by our RHS Gold Medalist friends Butler and Parker, became the final piece. Planted at eye level, it offers richness and subtle movement that matches the garden’s rhythm. A living surface — not added on, but always meant to be there.
This is what coming home should feel like: green, grounded, composed.
A Home That Breathes
When a roof is planted, the air changes. What was once just a space for storage becomes a place of attention and pride, elevating the practical needs of life.
A planted roof isn’t loud. It doesn’t shout for recognition.
It simply grows, and in doing so, restores what the city has slowly taken away: beauty, balance, and a sense that this place — this home — is utterly, and wonderfully, yours.
