Frequently Asked Questions
We know it’s not always easy to choose the right bike storage. Below, you’ll find answers to the questions our customers often ask us before they decide.
It’s natural to wonder. You’re here because your current setup isn’t working—but will this really be better?
We get asked this all the time, and honestly, the real shift happens when people see their space change.
That tangled pile of bikes? Gone. The constant battle to squeeze past them? Gone. The worry about them
getting wet, stolen, or in the way? Gone.
What you’re left with is a dedicated place that just works. Space back in your home. Bikes that are ready
to go, whenever you are. A store that looks good in your garden—not like something you’ll want to hide.
Almost every customer tells us afterwards:
"I should have done this sooner."
At first glance, it’s just a place to store bikes and bins. But in reality, it’s part of your home, often on public view, and needs to be visually appealing, secure, weatherproof and built to last. Most front gardens in London require planning permission. Bikes come in all shapes and sizes. And most off-the-shelf options don’t do the job properly.
That’s why we treat it seriously—because you want it done once, done properly, and to last.
We’ve taken all the bits that would normally be a headache—planning, design, fabrication, groundworks—and wrapped them into one seamless service.
It’s not “just a bike shed.” It’s a transformative solution to a daily headache.
Brilliant timing—you’re in the perfect position to get it all working as one.
We’re used to working alongside garden designers, landscapers, and builders. We can coordinate with your team, share drawings and measurements, and make sure your bike store fits seamlessly into the overall plan.
Because our stores are often installed at the front of the property, we usually schedule installation at the end of your renovation works—to avoid any risk of damage while the rest of the project is still underway.
If you let us know when your garden works might finish, we’ll make sure your store is ready in time. We know renovations don’t always go exactly to plan, so we stay flexible and do everything we can to work around your schedule.
While we don’t take on full garden projects, we do take care of everything needed to install your bike store properly.
That includes:
- Foundation works and base preparation
- Removing bushes or small obstacles
- Taking down low walls or other structures if needed
We’ll make sure the space is fully prepared—so when we arrive to install your store, it’s ready to go.
If you’re planning a bigger garden or landscape project, we’re happy to work alongside your team to make sure it all ties together. And if you don’t have anyone lined up, we can recommend trusted garden designers and landscapers we’ve worked with before.
Just let us know what you have in mind—we’ll help you bring it all together.
There’s a lot more than just the store.
When you choose Atlanticbike, you’re buying the store and the full service that comes with it.
That includes:
- A site visit to check your bikes, measure your space, and talk through your needs.
- Expert advice on design, placement, and maximising your storage.
- A custom proposal, including planning if required.
- Planning application service, fully managed by our in-house architect.
- Made-to-order manufacturing in our UK workshop.
- Groundworks and installation, handled by our trusted team and/or partners.
- And of course, your fully finished premium bike store, built to last a lifetime.
It’s designed to feel effortless for you from start to finish.
In most cases—yes, we do advise you to apply for planning permission.
Especially if your store will be fully visible from the street, replaces your front garden wall, or isn’t hidden behind bushes or below wall height—it’s the professional and safe route to take.
Of course, the final choice is yours. You can choose not to apply and take the risk, or apply retrospectively if it ever becomes an issue. There’s no obligation from us—just honest advice based on experience.
If you’d like to apply, we take care of the whole process for you. We’ve got an in-house architect who manages everything—drawings, applications, and council submissions—making sure your store is approved, legal, and designed to maximise every inch of your front garden space.
There’s a planning fee for this service, which also reserves your manufacturing slot while you wait for approval—so when planning comes through, we’re ready to build without extra delays.
Your garden won’t get bigger. Your bikes won’t get smaller. So if you’re going to do it, do it properly—and for the long term.
It can feel like a lot to figure out on your own—but that’s exactly why people choose to work with us. You’re not just buying a premium bike and bin store—you’re in a fully managed service. We know the process inside out, and we’ve got the timings down to a fine art.
- If your store doesn’t need planning, installation can often be booked within a few weeks.
- If it’s made-to-measure, allow 6–8 weeks for manufacturing and delivery (timing may vary)
- If planning is required, it takes around 8–12 weeks—this is council dependent. But once approved, we move straight to production and groundworks without adding any extra time.
We handle everything for you—from site visit to planning, manufacturing, installation and upkeep for your green roof. We book installation slots in advance, so if you’re thinking about it—get in touch now to secure your place in our schedule.
It’s not something you lose sleep over, but let’s be honest—it’s always in the back of your mind.
Bike theft is personal. It’s frustrating. And when your bikes are stored in the front garden, it’s easy to feel exposed.
That’s exactly what the Atlanticbike Store is designed to prevent.
With thick steel walls, a heavy, plant-loaded green roof, a discreet Phantom lock system, and integrated ground anchors, it’s built to keep your bikes exactly where you left them—safe, secure, and ready for your next ride.
We don’t share the full security details publicly—for your protection, not theirs. It’s made for the front of your home, right where thieves expect an easy target. But once it’s locked, it stays locked—giving you the peace of mind you’ve been looking for.
Still wondering if it's right for you? We’re here to help.
Great question—and a very common one. Bikes come in all shapes and sizes: slim road bikes, bulky e-cargo bikes, tall saddles, wide handlebars… it’s normal to worry.
The short answer? Yes, your bikes will fit—because we make sure they do.
Before anything’s built, we do a site visit. We look at your actual bikes, take proper measurements, and talk through how you want to use the space. That means no guesswork—and no regrets.
Fitting is something people worry about before buying. Once it’s installed, it’s never mentioned again.
If you’ve ever had bikes squeezed into a tight space—stacked up, tangled handlebars, pedals catching on each other—you’ll know how frustrating it can be to get them out without a wrestling match.
That’s exactly what we help you avoid.
We design every store with space to move, wide doors that open fully, and clear access to every bike. No awkward lifting. No twisting or wiggling to get the back one out. Just roll it straight in and out—even when you’re in a hurry.
We think about the whole experience—how the doors open, where you stand, how the lock feels to use—so that storing your bike feels as effortless as taking it for a ride.
If you’re after something quick or temporary, we’re probably not the right fit.
But if you want a permanent, well-crafted solution—designed for your bikes, your space, and fully managed from start to finish—you’re in exactly the right place.
You’re not just buying a bike store. You’re investing in a long-term improvement to your home, expertly designed, installed, and built to last for years to come.
And here’s something estate agents often tell us: A store like ours doesn’t just solve a storage problem—it increases property value and makes your home stand out to buyers looking for a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle. Integrated into your front garden, it raises the appeal and status of your property—making it more desirable than others on the street.
That’s why so many of our customers tell us afterwards:
"It’s better than we imagined—and worth every penny."
Most bike sheds are just that—sheds. Ours are something else entirely.
Every Atlanticbike store is:
- Built from steel and timber, not plastic or thin panels that warp or break.
- Engineered to last, with weatherproof materials and a structure designed to stand the test of time.
- Designed to fit your bikes and your space, not the other way around.
- Made by hand in the UK, by fabricators who care about every detail.
- Finished with a living green roof, adding life to your garden, not clutter.
But the real difference? We don’t just deliver a product—we deliver a fully managed service.
From planning permission to groundworks, manufacture, and installation, we handle everything. No flat packs. No third-party contractors. No guesswork.
And here’s something we hear time and time again from real estate agents: A store like ours doesn’t just solve bike storage—it raises the status of your property, making it stand out from others on your street. It appeals to buyers who value lifestyle, security, and long-term property value. That makes it more than just a practical upgrade—it’s an investment with a high return, reflected in your home’s value and appeal.
You’re investing in a permanent, secure, and beautifully built solution—something you’ll use and enjoy every day for years to come, not something you’ll want to replace in two.
Yes—they all do.The green roof is part of what makes an Atlanticbike store more than just a bike shed.
It transforms it into a lively garden feature, adding greenery and character to your home, creating a new garden space you didn’t have before.
You have three options, depending on the look and level of involvement you want:
- A low-maintenance sedum cassette roof, pre-planted and ready to enjoy with minimal upkeep.
- A deeper roof structure, designed for you to plant yourself, adding your own personal touch with your choice of plants.
- A fully bespoke planting design, created by our trusted, RHS gold medal-winning landscape designers, tailored exclusively for your property.
The green roof is part of the Atlanticbike Store offer, giving you something that looks beautiful, adds life, and makes use of space you might not have thought possible.
Great to hear. You can get started today by sending us a few photos of your space and telling us what bikes you have.
From there, we’ll arrange a site visit—that’s where we check your bikes, take proper measurements, and talk you through design and planning options. You’ll receive a clear proposal, including the planning service if needed.
Once you’re happy, you secure your place in our manufacturing schedule by paying the planning fee. This means that while your application is being processed, your manufacturing slot is reserved and ready—so there are no extra delays once planning is approved.
