Overview of Verde Plus featuring integrated lighting and sloped extensive green roof

Bespoke Verde Plus

PROBLEM

  • A homeowner in a London terraced house sought to renovate their narrow front garden to be both aesthetically pleasing and functional.
  • They required secure, discreet storage for two electric bikes, cycling gear, garden tools, and car equipment—without compromising the garden's design or the property's historical character.
  • The challenge was to integrate storage seamlessly into a high-end landscape design that also prioritized sustainability and daily usability.

SOLUTION

  • AtlanticBike designed and installed a bespoke, 4-metre-long storage unit with a depth of 0.9m, split into two separate compartments.
  • Each compartment featured hinged doors, comfortably fitting two bikes per section while maintaining access in front of the bay window.
  • Integrated motion-activated LED lighting and electric sockets allowed for convenient charging and illuminated access.
  • A low-maintenance sedum green roof, sloped towards the bay window, enhanced the view from the main living space and was well-received in the planning approval process for its sustainability benefits.
  • The metal structure's colour matched the limestone facade details of the street's terraced housing, and the FSC-treated softwood cladding was stained to complement the terracotta features.

APPROACH

  • Custom Design: Developed a tailored storage unit to fit the specific dimensions and aesthetic requirements of the narrow front garden.
  • Material Selection: Utilized a robust steel enclosure for durability, clad in FSC-treated softwood timber to complement the historical facade.
  • Green Roof Installation: Implemented a sedum green roof to introduce greenery, support local biodiversity, and provide a visually pleasing element.
  • Security Features: Equipped the unit with AtlanticBike's signature Phantom locking system to ensure the safety of stored bicycles and equipment.
  • Accessibility: Designed dual hinged doors for easy, space-saving access, allowing users to roll bikes in and out effortlessly.
