A Bespoke Bike Shed for a Terrace Front Garden

When I first approached Atlanticbike, I had a pretty specific request. I needed a bike shed for my two electric bikes, with shelving for chargers, and some additional storage for things like garden tools and car equipment. The challenge was the small front garden—just 4.2 metres wide and 2.2 metres deep, squeezed between the house and the front boundary. I knew the space was limited, but I wanted to make the most of it without sacrificing any outdoor area.

Atlanticbike came up with a brilliant solution. They designed a custom storage unit that fit the space perfectly—4 metres long with two separate compartments, each with hinged doors. The depth of the unit is a generous 0.9 metres, which means I can easily fit two bikes in each compartment. It’s really impressive how they managed to maximise the storage without taking up too much of the garden. In the end, I have 4 square metres of secure storage, and I didn’t lose any of my garden space in the process.

One of the things that stood out for me during the process was how they incorporated sustainability into the design. The green roof was a fantastic idea. It not only maintained the greenery on my property, but actually enhanced it—giving me a small rooftop garden above the shed, where the plants are protected. The council was particularly happy about this feature, and it really helped get planning approval through. It’s also a lovely touch, as the green roof is visible from my lounge window, bringing a bit of nature into view.

I was also impressed with the attention to detail. The shed blends in beautifully with the house. Atlanticbike matched the colour scheme perfectly—the metal structure is powder-coated in an ivory shade that complements the sandstone details of the house, and the timber slats are stained to match the terracotta accents on the front façade. It feels like it’s always been part of the property, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Functionality was key, and they really delivered on that too. I asked for lighting inside the shed, and they added a subtle shadow gap with linear lighting, activated by a motion sensor. It’s discreet, practical, and makes the shed so much easier to use in the evenings. On the security front, I opted for their top-level option. The shed is built with full metal panels clad in timber, anchored to a reinforced concrete base, and secured with heavy-duty Locinox locks. I feel confident that everything inside is well-protected.

Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the result. Atlanticbike not only understood what I needed but exceeded my expectations with a design that’s functional, secure, and seamlessly integrates into my home. Even the local council was impressed with how the shed’s design and green roof complemented the neighbourhood’s character. It’s not just a bike shed—it’s a smart, sustainable addition to my home.
