A Front Garden by Butler & Parker and Acacia Gardens, Completed with Integrated Bike Storage by Atlanticbike
In London, where space is at a premium, front gardens must do more than look beautiful — they need to be practical, well-designed, and make the most of limited outdoor areas.
Secure bike storage has become a common challenge for homeowners and designers alike. Too often, it’s an afterthought that clashes with a garden’s design. However, it can become part of the overall vision when addressed early and integrated properly.
Let's explore how an Atlanticbike bespoke green roof bike shed integrated beautifully into this front garden renovation by Butler & Parker and Acacia Gardens.
Butler & Parker: award-winning design studio looking to create beautiful, practical and sensory spaces through the finest of details, with the desire to build environments that connect us closer to nature.
Acacia Gardens: award-winning landscape gardeners specialising in luxury residential garden design and build projects, committed to creating desirable plant-focused residential gardens so their clients can enjoy their beauty and the benefits of outdoor living.
Solving the Bike Storage Challenge in High-End Landscape Designs
Butler & Parker got in touch with a clear brief for an upcoming London project: a front garden for a growing family that needed secure, discreet storage for five bikes—two adult and three children’s.
The client had seen one of our sheds installed just a few doors down and referred us to the design team, who were already familiar with our work. With that recommendation, Butler & Parker came to us looking for a low-profile bike shed with a metal frame, timber cladding, and a green roof they could plant themselves.
This garden was also designed with sustainability in mind. Permeable paving and the bike shed's green roof formed part of a broader Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) approach — helping to manage rainwater naturally, reduce runoff, and contribute to a healthier streetscape. It’s a quiet, effective example of how thoughtful garden design can benefit not just the homeowner, but the surrounding neighbourhood too.
It was the start of a thoughtful collaboration in which we supported the designers with a solution that helped complete their dreamy landscape vision and gave their client everything they’d hoped for.

Our Bespoke Green Roof Bike Shed Design
Working closely with the designers, we developed a fully bespoke bike shed tailored to both the site and their vision.
Key design features included:
- A custom footprint and access layout to fit the available space and user needs.
-
A green roof system built with: a subtle incline for effective drainage for long-term performance, a waterproof membrane and a drainage filtre to support the planting by Butler & Parker
- A finish in opal green, selected to complement the brickwork of the house and surrounding garden palette.
We collaborated directly with Acacia Gardens to ensure the shed would sit perfectly atop their meticulously laid porous brick base. The final install required no adjustment — a clean, precision fit.
Once installed, Butler & Parker completed the green roof with their planting design, transforming the shed into an extension of the planting scheme and adding 3 square metres of green space to the garden.
A Bike Shed That Complements a Dreamy, Design-Led Garden Where Every Detail Matters
A full front garden renovation guided by Butler & Parker’s creative vision, and brought to life by the craftsmanship of Acacia Gardens, resulted in a space that feels tranquil, intentional, and character-rich.
Within this setting, the bike shed played a subtle but important role, contributing to the overall composition and providing a secure, elegant, and green solution. With its planted roof, the shed supported the design vision and created additional space for planting, enriching the garden's function and feel.
For the homeowner, the outcome was more than a place to store bikes:
- Peace of mind, knowing their bikes are protected and secure
- A calm, nature-led entrance to their home
- And the satisfaction of having one of the most beautiful front gardens on the street
For the design team, it was a collaborative process where every detail, from roof slope to colour finish, came together with precision.
And for us, it’s a reminder of what’s possible when bike storage is included as part of a garden’s early design thinking, not just bolted on at the end.

Why Bike Storage Should Be Part of Every Landscape Design
This project reflects what we deeply believe in at Atlanticbike: bike sheds should be an integral part of landscape and garden design, not an afterthought.
They solve a growing need for urban homeowners and, when designed well, can contribute to the green character of a space — not detract from it.
We wrote more about this approach in this article here, where we share why secure, design-led bike storage matters for every London landscape project.
