As part of his front garden renovation, our client was looking for a solution to store two electric bikes, their gear, garden tools, and other car equipment. With limited space in his front garden, our client's main focus was maximising the storage and optimising daily usage.
A practical front garden bespoke storage need
Our client had a clear vision of what he wanted: a secure and practical bike shed to store their two electric bikes, with optimal access for daily commute.
His priorities were:
- Size Optimisation: utilise the whole length of their garden (4m) and minimise the depth without losing storage capacity and easy access in front of the bay window.
- Electric Power, Lighting and Motion Detection Integration: they wanted to charge their chargers when the bikes weren't in use and have motion-lit access for ease.
- They wanted to see more greenery inside their main living space
A premium bike storage solution
We designed a bespoke 4-metre-long storage unit with a depth of 0.9m, split into two separate compartments. With one pair of hinged doors per compartment, the unit comfortably fits two bikes per section and keeps the access free in front of the bay window.
We introduced a motion-activated sensor and a concealed LED lighting strip above the swinging doors to illuminate the access to and into the bike store.
We added our removable shelving system to store their chargers, allowed for electric sockets for the chargers and fixed a couple of hooks to hang their gear.
The green roof is a low-maintenance sedum that maintains its rich green all year round. The local council received the green roof well in the planning approval process due to its aid in rainwater distribution and statement for sustainability. Sloped towards the bay window, the green roof not only softened the structure’s appearance but also elevated the greenery to eye level from the inside of the main living space.
We matched the colour of metal structure with the unique limestone facade details on the street's terraced housing. The stain we chose for the FSC treated softwood cladding adds a touch of warmth and complements the terracotta features on the street's elevation.

We delivered a secure, practical, visually appealing green roof bike shed that made the most available space. The client now benefits from four square metres of secure cycle storage, (more than they expected!), without having lost a centimetre from his garden's greenery.
